Some say that the new
Transformers movie is a long-running ad for GM and the new Chevrolet
Camaro. I say So what?. As a youngster in the 80s, I experienced
everything the Transformers legacy had to offer. Science Fiction, technology, and the
long-standing battle between good and evilcmon, whats not to love? Hard-core Transformers fanatics have referred
to the movie as far from the (original) series and commercialism in
cinematics. Some truth might weight
into this, but overall, the movie does what the original series did
bestcaptivate the audience with the wonder of what could be. There is an abundance of wonder in the
storyline and without knowing the movies plot (before spoilers), I must say
that Bay & Spielberg built their 2 hours quite well.
One of the most exciting
wonders was how the CGI overlays during a Transformation hit solid when
the real, active prop (in this case, the new Chevrolet Camaro) came to life and
sped away. Everything about Bumblebees
character, even without his voice initially, was instantly likeable. His charisma, sense of humor, yet muscular
protection all factored in. The
Chevrolet marketing folks must be pleased with the outcome. Their new car is a faceplate for a targeted
market that is pleased and excited to see the new Camaro take form of a noble
character. Their car helps out a boy in
trouble, sacrifices himself, and even helps the boy get the girl. If this is rolling stock personified, it
seems to fit the characteristics of the new Camaro quite well. We have seen its sleek lines, heard its
powerful exhaust note, and know full well that it will be a reliable product
once it hits the streets.
Im sure everyone has
their opinion on the new Transformers movie, as well as the Chevrolet
Camaro. Its only a matter of time until
the car becomes the real deal and we see it prowling the streets. Until then, stay tuned, as well keep you
posted on what is happening.
