Big 3 Muscle Camaro Challenger Shelby GT500 Mustang

Rumors have been flying about in Motor City that GM will announce plans to go forward with Camaro production before the October 31st SEMA show, according to the Detroit News article recently released. Back in April, organizers of the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association show said the upcoming event would have even more focus on muscle cars with the Big 3 teaming up to debut their latest and greatest offerings under the official title "Vehicle Manufacturers of the Show". Expect to see the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, the Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger in the limelight of the event, as plans for all 3 are either finalized and produced or are deep into the process of a final product.

Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept

A recent article from the Post-Gazette.com points at the July issue of Motor Trend having detail about a new twist on the new Chevrolet Camaro concept: a drop-top. Supposedly, General Motors has already approved a convertible Camaro for production. Recent reports around various industry news sites all point to the Camaro concept hitting production, but there is still some hesitation as the business case behind the scenes has not been completed. It is assumed that GM will need to move 100,000 Camaros in order to see a positive return from the venture; a convertible offering will likely speed sales.

Chevrolet Camaro & Ford Mustang simulation

Have you ever wondered how the prospective Chevrolet Camaro would match up against today’s ponycar champ, the Ford Mustang? Since only one car is a reality right now, a virtual reality has been used to create a simulation as to how both cars measure up. Motor Trend has three distinct simulations, with runs at a dragstrip, a slalom, and a figure 8 course. Better still, each car can be compared in three performance levels: V6 specs, the Camaro Z28 vs. the Mustang Boss 330, and the Camaro ZL-1 vs. the Mustang GT500. Keep reading to view an assortment of screenshots or click to here to visit MT and run the simulations.

2009 Chevrolet Camaro 4.jpg

RPM Planets is taking a look at the future. With that, we are pleased to report that 2009 seems to be the projected date for the reincarnated Camaro. With a rumored base price of $20,000 for the V6 and a 400HP LS2 as an option, we cannot speculate as to how much of the sheetmetal will remain intact, we can only hope that the production model will stay true to the concept.

Rumor has it that the Camaro, if approved, will debut for the 2010 model year. The base engine is expected to be the corporate 3.9 V6, with two possible V8 choices, the 5.3 & 6.0. No 7.0 monster, though; that is reserved for the Corvette. Click here to read more!
