By now, we have all seen
the public shots of the forthcoming Chevrolet Camaro. We know what it looks like, both inside and
out, have a good idea of base MSRP, and know what powerplants will be
offered
.or do we?
Since the inception of the
redesign in 2006, a lot has happened in the automotive world with respect to horsepower wars, the green race, and the aftermarket mad-dash. In the three years between stencil drawings
and rubber burning, the environment surrounding the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro has
changed a bit in shade. The keywords fuel
efficient, muscle car, and effective displacement are now the buzz everyone is watching for.
General Motors understands
the dynamic market evolution factors in play and has since put effort into the
integration of a possible hybrid powertrain to be inserted into the latest
generation Camaro. A proven system in
the Chevy Tahoe, the technology GM holds has proven to be a valuable green card in
the hand. It will be interesting to see
how the V8 folds out, given it will be offered alongside a green sibling.
Whats more interesting,
weve heard that the initial pricing of the Chevrolet Camaro will also be
higher than what's been communicated to date.
The increase is largely attributed to the fact that GM has tabled all
other ideas for rear wheel drive carsforcing the burden of cost to be focused
on the Camaro alone. That said, GM could
still leverage design and technology from the luxury cousin cars made by
Cadillac. And why not? Some tech and design elements from the
Chevrolet Corvette spilled over into the Cadillac XLR. There may be a very near future need for a
two-way street here.
