Pulling the cover off of a 69 Camaro Speedster this year at SEMA will be the job of Baldwin-Motion, who is known for their radical classic Camaro projects. The car is based on a 1969 donor car, but the year is probably the only thing stock about it. The car features a 540 cubic inch big block with Kinsler fuel injection. The engine rests on a full tube chassis. The roadsters 600 horsepower will be transmitted to the fully independent rear end suspension while turning is assisted by a power rack and pinion setup. Custom interior and racing seats and harnesses will go along nicely with the chromed roll bar. This will surely be one of the ultimate cruising cars on display at SEMA 2006. Its bright yellow color will catch eyes all across the show floor. Stay tuned to RPM as more information comes in as SEMA gets closer. |

In a recent report from Automotive News, it's rumored that the executives at GM are contemplating exporting the reborn Chevrolet Camaro over to Europe. With the news of the car's production being formalized recently, could this be another attempt by GM to get an edge in the modern-day horsepower race? Europeans have yet to see the new Camaro in person, but are chomping at the bit, given the images and illustrations they have viewed in the popular media. We'll have to see what card Chevrolet will play next, as Ford's recent TV spot with the Shelby GT500 rolling about on the Autobahn has certainly drawn attention to the concept of transplanting American muscle across the pond. |

As Chevrolet just starts to pour new life into the revived Camaro, they have decided to also offer a convertible version of their legendary street bruiser. RPM has learned that Chevrolet will follow up the launch of the 2009 Camaro coupe with a 2010 Camaro convertible. Both of these cars are scheduled to enter the exploding pony car market right as the two other domestic OEMs release their own pony cars. The convertible version will also ride on the same Zeta platform that will be modified for use as the Camaro. One of the nice things about this global platform is GM could spin off many other two-door RWD variants like the Firebird, GTO, and Grand Prix, so easily. The next generation Camaro will be fighting off a lot of Challengers and Mustangs in the very near future so stay tuned. |

The iconic Chevrolet Camaro is bringing back pride with the "Heartbeat of America", but it likely won't be built in the United States. It's been reported by several sources (The Car Connection, Automotive News, NY Times) that when GM puts the Camaro into production in 2008, it won't come to America as a native-born citizen, rather as a Canadian from Ontario. The new Camaro is rumored to require at least $658 million in capital expenditures to gear up the plant for production upgrades. Eventually, the Ontario plant will be equipped as a flex facility, being able to produce other rear-wheel drive platform cars as well. Perhaps the Pontiac Firebird might join the party, as it was produced in Montreal with its sibling (Camaro) before they were both dropped back in 2002. It does not make much sense to spend several hundred million dollars only to resurrect and create one sports car model. |

A few reputable sources are pointing towards GM making an official announcement this week regarding the production of the next Chevrolet Camaro. While not a shocking statement by any means, this (expected) official announcement will put the Camaro on schedule within the next couple of years, in hopes of competing with the Dodge Challenger and the soon-to-be-redesigned Ford Mustang. On Thursday of this week, General Motors Chairman Rick Wagoner is supposed to make the announcement for the next generation production to be official as opposed to the last several rounds of rumors and speculation. We'll keep you updated on this development, so check back on Thursday to see what the shakedown is with the all-new Chevrolet Camaro. |

Rumors have been flying about in Motor City that GM will announce plans to go forward with Camaro production before the October 31st SEMA show, according to the Detroit News article recently released. Back in April, organizers of the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association show said the upcoming event would have even more focus on muscle cars with the Big 3 teaming up to debut their latest and greatest offerings under the official title "Vehicle Manufacturers of the Show". Expect to see the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, the Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger in the limelight of the event, as plans for all 3 are either finalized and produced or are deep into the process of a final product. |
